Same as last year, but hopefully with nicer weather - let's hope for a clear night! (We'll almost be at the new moon so no help for you there...)

Plan is to start at lunchtime on the Saturday, do some nav revision, then some walking and stumbling around in the dark, before getting to bed late.

Sunday will be a free day - but there'll be some micro navigation tuition available if people want it.

Important NB. Openwater swimming like mountaineering has its own safety precautions. Know them before you start.

Note : In this meets programme there are a number of new full members stewarding meets for the first time. Please treat them gently and help out if help is needed!

How to book on meets : All meets are organised by a meet steward (see name after details of meet), who can be contacted preceding the meet. For weeklong meets we ask for a deposit. The steward coordinates transport and will sometimes coordinate a communal meal on Saturday night. Ask them for details of accommodation, planned activities etc. in the month preceding the meet. Weekend meets usually start on Friday night and finish on Sunday. Dates given indicate the nights away.

Fronwydyr : If you haven't been to Fronwydyr before, here are just a few of the things you can do from the doorstep. The hut is in the Llanberis valley which separates the Snowdon and the Glyder massifs. It's above the hamlet of Nant Peris, which has a pub The Vaynol and not much else. Llanberis Pass is a Mecca for rock-climbing and although there's more climbing in the harder grades there are a good number of excellent easy climbs too, both in the Pass itself and high up. There's a detailed climbing guide to Llanberis if you want the full Monty; or there's a good selection of the best in Steve Ashton's 100 Classic Climbs in North Wales. If you're into it, Llanberis slate is only a few hundred yards from the hut. The scope for Walking is enormous, but here are a few obvious ideas - you can reach the Glyders and Snowdon without a car, and both Crib Goch (airy ridge scrambling) and Crib y Ddysgl can be reached on foot from Fronwydyr without encountering the Snowdon hordes via Cwm Glas (look at the 1:25,000 map). Also, you can walk straight out of the door and up easy grassy slopes to Y Garn and Elidir Fawr and on to the Glyders (all over 3000 feet) and over to the Ogwen Valley or down to the Pen-y-Gwryd hotel for a pint before returning down the pass. If it's blowing a hoolie there are details of the local climbing wall on the notice board in the hut. Another Mecca, Pete's Eats cafe, is 2-3 km by car or on foot through the quarries in Llanberis village, where there are also good gear shops if you're in for a real fester.

Do you have comments on the meets programme? Ideas for new or different venues? Ideas for new themes for meets? Would you like to steward a meet? If you have ideas please contact the Meets secretary, Chris via phone: 07751 284 733 or e-mail.
