Internal Speaker - Tony Hamza THE LONG MARCH In Autumn 2007 a team from the London Mountaineering Club went to a remote area in the Annapurna region of the Himalaya. On the 7 day serious sh*t happened - one member was injured, a dead body was found and a porter was seriously ill. What would you do? Send for a helicopter? And when the helicopter didn't arrive and the food ran out? Experience the situation as it unfolds with Tony' Hamza's DVD and tell us what you would have done. |

At homes - Social evenings - are held on the third Thursday of each month except in December. We meet in the upstairs room of a pub called the 'Devereux' at 20 Devereux Court, London WC2R 3JJ.
Socialising starts in the upstairs room at 19:00 and the main event is in the upstairs room is at 20:00.
Devereux Court is off Essex Street which is a cul-de-sac leading south from the
Law Courts end of the Strand. Nearest tube stations are Holborn on the Central
& Piccadilly Lines (10 mins) and Temple on the District & Circle Lines
(3 mins). There are numerous buses including North-South routes 59, 68, 168, 91
and East-West routes 4, 11, 23, 26, 172, 341 that have stops around Aldwych.
From Holborn tube walk south all the way down Kingsway to the Aldwych and turn
left; after 200 yards cross the road and pass in front of St Clements Church
which is on a large traffic island; across the next carriageway, and bearing
left is a green neon sign for The Yorkshire Building Society; this marks the
corner of Essex Street - Devereux Court is about 50 yards down on the left.
From Temple tube turn left as you leave the station and mount the steps into
Temple Place; turn right and follow Temple Place to where it bends right to
meet the Embankment; across the road is a red telephone box at the entrance to
Milford Lane; follow this lane (20 yards) to a set of narrow steps leading to
the south end of Essex Street, keep walking - Devereux Court is the first
turning you come to on your right
Sometimes we have a purely social evening or a quiz night but most At Homes are talks and slide or movie presentations by outside speakers or talented club members on climbing and mountaineering related topics. These are mostly very good ! Watch out for the March one as we have our Annual General Meeting then - very dull to an outsider !
We have an annual dinner-dance at a hotel in Snowdonia.
To make comments about the social programme or suggest speakers or events contact the Social Secretary Matthew Alfredson.
