Ice climbing in Ecrins
18 Jan 2020 to 26 Jan 2020

Scotland's nice, but Europe has the ice!

A chance to finally place those ice screws in an area famous for having 300 days of sun each year.

We'll be staying in the village of L'Argentiere-la-Bessee in the Hautes-Alpes. There are many picturesque valleys situated nearby boasting a huge range of ice climbs of all grades, some up to 700m long!

The deadline has now passed to be included in the group accommodation booking. Other members are welcome to join but will need to find their own place to stay. There is a passable youth hostel https://www.icerockhotel.com/ or rental properties are available on airbnb or via the tourist information office
https://www.france-voyage.com/cities-towns/l-argentiere-la-bessee-17322/tourist-office-argentiere-bessee-6955.htm

Closest airport is Turin, or it's possible to drive in two, or one very long day.

Familiarity with the techniques required for ice climbing is recommend for those intending to come on this meet. I can't guarantee that other participants will be in a position to provide beginner instruction to those without experience of this type of climbing. Local guides are available for hire should people wish to learn the basics when they're out there, or there is an indoor ice wall in Covent Garden.

Scotland is not recommended as a venue for learning to ice climb! :-)
