Meets

Participating in meets is what the club is all about. Meets are run by members, for members.

The club thrives by having members take an active interest in the meets that are run. To volunteer to steward a meet, or to suggest a new meet, please contact our meets secretary. The FAQ page offers advice on what to expect on a meet and guidelines for organising meets. Remember that if you have spotted potential for a new meet, the chances are high that others will also be interested!

Early May Bank Holiday - Working Party Meet
4 May 2018 to 7 May 2018

The annual working party is the time when the hut is put into good order for the coming year. It's a great opportunity to spend time in the Pass and make a useful contribution to Fronwydyr at the same time.

The hut needs a good spring clean at this time of the year and, as well cleaning and tidying inside and out, it is the time to check that everything works as it should, so there's lots of potential for minor DIY jobs.

The current water supply needs some work (as always) and the gas cylinder cage needs a new concrete base. Some decorating also needs to be done. More boringly all the notices need reviewing so there are jobs for all skills and interests.

Fuel costs are covered and dinners and lunches are paid for. Fun guaranteed!

If interested please contact the meet steward.

LMC Navigation meet with fireworks (North Wales)
2 Nov 2018 to 4 Nov 2018

Ever got lost on a mountain? Do you end up in groups where the blind lead the blind? Not got the confidence to politely point out someone else’s navigation is flaky? Can you make quick navigation decisions, and act on them, in a biting wind and snow? Use a GPS but have no idea what to do when the batteries run out? Can’t read a map anyway? Is it time to consider coming on our annual navigation practice weekend?

Based at Fronwydyr, and run by members, we’ll learn how to get the best out of a map, plan a route, and get around on the hill. Hopefully the weather will be rubbish, and failing that it’ll certainly be dark before we’re finished. Aimed at both the inexperienced learner, and the overconfident hardened mountaineer.

Weekend includes daytime practice in groups and pairs, night navigation with possible hill-top views of fireworks on Anglesey, more fireworks back at the hut, and a Sunday navigation-led quiz on the slopes of Y Garn. Drop me a line and I’ll tell you what you’re letting yourself in for.

Optional map session over a pint in a London pub on Monday 29 October.

LMC Welsh Dinner Meet
23 Nov 2018 to 25 Nov 2018

Annual Welsh Dinner Meet with dinner at the Royal Victoria Hotel on the Saturday night.

After a gap of two years the Welsh Dinner meet returns. It’s a great opportunity for all members to get together, dust off their dancing
shoes and get out into the hills before the bleak mid-winter.

The meet runs over a weekend, with the usual opportunities to go out walking, scrambling or climbing on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday evening, we provide transport from Fronwydyr and other, nearby local huts to the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis for a three course dinner. This is followed by a Ceilidh with 'The Rumble Strips' who will ‘call’ the dances, so no previous knowledge of ceilidh dancing is required. The evening finishes just after midnight with transport back to the huts.

This year the Alpine Club are also holding their Welsh Dinner at the Royal Victoria
on the Saturday evening. LMC members and guests have been invited to join Alpine Club members at the hotel for an hour's session of short talks, together with a presentation, by Mick Fowler and Phil Jones, of 'Cascade' and 'Central Icefall Direct', in 1978 and 1979. This starts at 5:30pm. Please let the meet steward know if you wish to attend.

There is a maximum of 40 places for this Welsh Dinner weekend.

The three course meal, accommodation for Friday and Sat. nights, Sat.'s ceilidh
band and the taxi to/from the hut to the hotel costs £55 per person. Members are welcome to book for one guest if they wish.
