SUMMARY:LMC Meet: The Gritstone Gallop
DESCRIPTION:Now in its 19th year!
 \n
\nStarted by Ralph Hale back in 2008
\, the Gritstone Gallop follows in the great tradition of the Rock and Ice
Club who apparently used this event for their pre-Alpine training\, in days
  of yore.
 \n
\nThe 'Gallop' is about 12-14 miles in length\, and is done
entirely on foot (and hands!). It starts in the High Neb area of Stanage in
the Peak District and ends at Birchens Edge\, a route is climbed on every
edge/crag on the way - 12 in total!
 \n
 \nThe full Gallop is a long day\,
finishing up in the Robin Hood Inn near Birchen and the Heathy Lea hut. But
you're welcome to cut it short as you wish.
 \n
\nIf you plan on doing th
e whole thing and getting to the Robin Hood in time for dinner then an earl
y start is recommended as the chef definintely doesn't like working late!

 \n
\nYour grade for the 'Gallop' is the lowest grade you climb in the day\
, and the more crags you climb\, the more beers you are allowed in the Robi
n Hood Inn.... if you make it before closing time!
 \n
 \nAccomodation
 \n
\n8 spaces booked in the R O Downes Hut (Climbers' Club)\, Froggatt.
 \n

 \nPayment
 \n
\nHut fees - £30 payable on sign up.
 \n
 \nCancellation pol
 icy
 \n
\nThe Climbers' Club don't offer refunds on cancellation\, so unfo
rtunately nor can we for this meet. But if you need to cancel\, you're welc
ome to try and find someone to take your place and reimbourse you directly.

SUMMARY:LMC Meet: Alps Meet - Saas Grund\, Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:Saas Grund is a village in the heart of the Saas Valley and one
of the best locations in the Alps for long classic alpine ridges on big pe
 aks\, including many 4000ers. The Lagginhorn\, Weissmiess\, Leinspitze\, Ta
schorn and Dom are all nearby and have many classic routes from PD to AD+.
  \n
\nThere is also bolted multipitch rock climbing on the flanks of the J
egihorn and Dri Hornlini as well as single pitch valley cragging at Feechi
 and Brig.
 \n
\nThe valley is also served by an extensive network of hikin
 g trails.
 \n
\nA number of lifts make the huts and climbs very accessable
and a good bus service up and down the valley makes it easy to get around\
 , even without a car.
 \n
 \n
 \n
 \n<strong>Accomodation:</strong>
 \nCa
 mping Kapellenweg
 \nhttps://kapellenweg.ch/
 \nBooking well in advance is
not recommended\, to allow flexibility in the event of bad weather - see b
 elow.
\nIf the campsite is full at the time of the meet there's 2 others i
 n the village.
\nParticiapants will be expected to book their own pitches
 shortly before the meet.
 \n
 \n<strong>Weather</strong>
 \nIf the forecast
for the meet is too wet\, the plan is to head elsewhere - e.g. Chamonix or
Ecrins. We could also change the location during the meet if the weather d
 eteriorates.
 \n
 \n<strong>Travel</strong>
\nIt's possible to drive to Sa
as Grund in a day from London (approx 13 hours).
 \nThose wanting to fly ar
e advised to book a flight to Geneva which is well situated for getting to
Saas Grund\, but also many other destinations in the Alps.
 \nThere's good
public transport links between Geneva airport and Saas Grund (3.5 hours\; t
rain to Visp then bus to Saas Grund)\, and in the valley itself\, so hiring
a car is not necessary. But it is useful and can be as cost effective as p
aying for public transport if rental costs are shared. It also opens up the
opportunity to do climbs/hikes from other valleys in the area.
 \n
 \n<st
 rong>Meet duration</strong>
\nThe meet is officialy one week\, but partici
pants are welcome to come earlier\, or stay longer if they wish to.
 \n
 \n

SUMMARY:LMC Meet: Kalymnos Sport Climbing Meet - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:
\nKalymnos is one of Europes premier limestone sport climbing
destinations with over 3000 bolted routes. There are a range of different
styles of climbing from grey slab/vertical\, tufas\, overhanging routes\, c
 ave climbing etc.
\nWith grades starting at 4a there is climbing here for
  everyone climbing at all grades.
 \n
\nCrag selection is one of Kalymnos’
biggest advantages. As no car is needed once you are on the island. With h
undreds of sectors spread across the island\, you can always find something
in condition. A lot of the crags can be reached within walking distance fr
om Masouri. If you do find you want to try crags further out\, you can rent
a scooter on a daily basis to travel to other crags on the island. There i
s also another island called Telendos which you can take a 30min boat ride
to for a day trip climbing. Routes are longer on Telendos and the routes st
art from Slab to Vertial to Overhang\, this is a good area to take strategi
c rests on route to maximise chance of sending.
 \n
 \nI would recommend br
inging 18 draws plus lower off equipment. Rope length 70-80m with 80m being
  preferred.
 \n
\nThe rock can be quite sharp on some of the routes so if
you are like me and have soft sweaty hands it would be advisable to start u
sing RhinoSkin Dry and/or Performance/Tip Juice products daily starting 7 d
ays before the trip to toughen the skin. I use a mixture of Oreillys workin
g hands and beeswax post climbing to maximise skin performance.
 \n
 \nGuid
ebook: https://www.cordee.co.uk/kalymnos-2025-edition.html (If you are buyi
ng a new guidebook for the area this is the latest edition)
 \n
 \n========

 \nTravelling
 \n========
 \n
\nBelow are the suggested flights from Stan
sted (KGS Kos is the destination you will be flying to from London\, if you
want to look for better suited fights)
 \n
 \nSuggested Flights: https://w

 -18&adults=1&children&infants=0&scid=3A3A3DC8&bound=ib
 \n
 \nOnce you lan
d in KOS you will need to get a cab from outside the airport to Mastihari b
ay there are usually loads of cabs lining up. Then a ferry from Mastihari t
o Kalymnos. The ferry tickets can be purchased online or at Mastihari\, I p
refer to get the ticket at Mastihari so you can find the best time suited f
erry. When you get of the ferry you will then need one more cab to your pla
 ce of stay.
 \n
 \n========
 \nRest Days
 \n========
 \n
 \nThere are lots
of things to do on your rest day from drinking pina coladas on the beach\,
scuba diving\, climber specific massages\, to cultural museums. Reach out a
nd I can give you a list of things to do.
 \n
\nSign up by the 31st May to
secure a place. £100 deposit required. Suitable size accommodation will be
booked based on the number that sign up.
 \n
 \nEstimated accomodation cos

lunteers\, a small donation goes along way to the Rebolting project: https:

SUMMARY:LMC Meet: Cairngorms Btwixmas meet
DESCRIPTION:Take advantage of the post Christmas bank holidays with a week'
s winter climbing and walking in the Northern Cairngorms.
 \n
 \nWe’ll be s
taying at the Aviemore Youth Hostel which is warm\, clean and spacious and
arguably has the best drying room in the UK!
 \n
 \nWinter Climbing
 \nThe
Cairngorms\, and in particular the Northern Corries\, are the most popular
early season winter climbing venue in Scotland and are often in condition t
 his time of year.
 \n
\nThe venue is ideal for novices and seasoned climbe
rs alike with many classic routes across all grades.
 \n
 \nWinter Walking
\nThe Cairngorms boast many excellent winter walks and are home to 55 Munr
 oes and numerous bothies.
 \n
 \nAccommodation and booking
 \nWe’ll be stay
ing at the Aviemore Youth Hostel https://www.hostellingscotland.org.uk/host
 els/aviemore/
\nAs well as booking onto the meet we ask participants to bo
ok themselves a bed in a dorm room at the hostel. They can do this either o
nline at the website above\, or by calling 01479 810345.
 \nWe’ve agreed wi
th the hostel that they’ll try and put LMC members in the same rooms so ple
ase mention that you’re with the LMC if you book by phone. If you book onli
ne\, follow this up with an email to aviemore@hostellingscotland.org.uk men
tioning that you’re with the LMC.
\nPlease book early to avoid disappointm
ent as the hostel does book up in the winter\, especially on weekends. Book
ing via a 3rd party website is not recommended as this will make it more di
fficult for the hostel to keep the group together.
 \nAt the time of writin
g a bed in a dorm room at the hostel was £26.50 per night.
 \n
 \nCancellat
 ion
\nThe cancelation terms for people booking individually\, directly wit
h the hostel\, are very generous and are the main reason we’re asking peopl
e to self-book their accommodation. Participants can cancel independently u
p until 12 noon on the day before they’re due to arrive and receive a 90% r
efund. This could be for any reason including if participants feel the weat
her or snow conditions are likely to make winter climbing/walking impossibl
 e.
 \n
 \nTravel
 \nAviemore is roughly a 10 hour drive from London\, but h
aving a car on the meet is not strictly necessary as much of the winter cli
mbing and walking can be accessed by public transport\, short taxi rides\,
 and even hitch hiking!
\nThere are direct day trains from London and some
sleeper train services over the period.
 \n
 \nPrerequisites
 \nThe Cairngo
rms are a great venue for winter climbers and walkers of all levels\, inclu
ding novices. But we recommend that anyone that’s completely new to either
of these activities do a course beforehand to familiarise themselves with t
he winter specific skills they need. A weekend course in the Cairngorms or
Western Highlands should be sufficient. For winter climbing\, summer trad c
limbing is also a very helpful (arguably essential) grounding.
 \n
 \nGuide

The Cairngorms & North-East Scotland (SMC) or https://www.walkhighlands.co

SUMMARY:LMC Meet: Ben Nevis CIC Hut Meet
DESCRIPTION:This meet it best suited to experienced winter climbers.
 \n
 \
n5 Nights at the CIC hut situated at the foot of the North Face of Ben Nevi
 s. The UK's premier winter climbing crag and home to a huge range of routes
  including many classics!
 \n
\nThe hut is booked from the Sunday to the F
riday morning so it's recommended to travel up on the Saturday (15th Feb) a
nd then use Sunday to walk up to the hut with food and gear for the week an
d ideally do a climb that day as well
 \n
\nThe CIC hut is basic. It has a
kitchen\, toilets\, running water and drying room\, but no shower. For det
ails on facilities\, and the hut more generally\, see https://www.smc.org.u
 k/huts/cic.
 \n
\nAll gear and food needs to be taken up on foot from the
Ben Nevis North Face Car Park which takes around 2hrs 30 mins and is a real
slog. But once you're there\, there are relatively short walk-ins to all t
he climbs on the North Face.
 \n
\nLate Feb is slightly earlier that previ
ous years\, however the hut is in high demand and already booked out. This
time of year is typically a good time for ice routes on Ben Nevis so you're
likely to get more out of this meet if you're happy on this surface and ca
n climb at least Scottish grade III. This meet is not recommended for those
that favour winter walking as options for that activity are very limited.
  \n
\nThe cost of a bed in the hut is £28 p.p.p.n. The full cost of £140 i
s payable on sign up. Unfortunately due to high demand for the CIC hut in t
he winter season the Scottish Mountaineering Club cannot offer refunds in t
he event of cancellation. If you need to cancel your place then please let
the meet steward know asap. They can help find someone else to take your pl
ace (who will transfer you the money)\, though replacements aren't guarante
ed and you will be liable for the costs if replacements can't be found.
 \n

\nGuidebook: Scottish Winter Climbs - SMC (available in paperback or to d
 ownload on the Rockfax app)
 \n
 \nScottish Winter Climbs West - Scottish M
 ountaineering Club
 \n
\nTravel to Ben Nevis: The drive is about 10 hours
from London and can easily be done in a day.
 \n
 \nPlease reach out to the
