Richard will be leading a Geology walk on the Saturday as part of this meet, if you don't fancy this St Sunday Crag, Helvellyn and High Street are close by the hut - which has a great lounge and fire so after walking and scrambling you can warm up in comfort.
On the geology walk you can expect to find out about the many mines in the area just east of Helvellyn. We’ll be visiting the Greenside Mine, which was once one of the largest lead producers in Britain, only ceasing production in 1962. If you’ve never found any minerals before this is your chance. We’ll be discussing the geological conditions that gave rise to the mineralisation in these rocks and mountains.
