Join a weekend on the granite tors, windswept moorlands, and ancient temperate rainforests of Dartmoor as the nights start drawing in.
There are plenty of single-pitch crags nearby at Dewerstone, Hay Tor, and Hound Tor amongst others, as well as a few multi-pitch routes. Walking or fell running options abound for those seeking a navigational challenge, or to spot the various supernatural entities rumoured to stalk the uplands.

Staying at the South Dartmoor Bunkhouse which despite its website, is *not* a hostel but a club hut. The fee of £26 for the weekend is required on sign up. Unfortunately, since the hut doesn't offer refunds for cancellation, nor can we. If you need to pull out for any reason, you're welcome to try and find someone to take your place and reimburse you directly.

Chance to sharpen your map reading and navigation skills - both by day and night. Suitable for novice navigators and wizard-like wanderers. This year with new helpers - and new ideas!

We will to focus on using maps, and then go out on the hill to practice navigation. We will all make use of traditional navigation (using a compass, the map and looking around!), and also discuss use of GPS-based devices.

Bookings open on 1 September, and will be limited to ten participants. We will organise a communal meal on the Saturday night (I'll be looking for a volunteer co-ordinator). The meet fees include an extra amount to pay for the communal meal.
This Meet will be based from our Club hut Fronwyder.

The Anti Atlas region of Morocco is a heaven for adventure climbing and hill walking. With over 2000 routes there is something for everyone.
Climbing is almost all trad with plenty of routes at all grades.

For trekkers, the summit of Jebel el Kest 2,375m offers views to the snowy peaks of the Atlas mountains to the North, Altantic Ocean to the West and Sahara Desert to the South.

Staying at the lovingly restored fourteenth century castle - Kasbah Tizourgane on a half board basis (bed/breakfast/dinner) located in the hills about 1.5hr drive from Agadir.

A meet at our club hut in Eryri

Come and spend a long weekend climbing unpronounceable hills in indifferent weather - the annual Winter Munro Meet.

December can be a fickle time of year in the Scottish hills, you may require a balaclava and sunscreen in equal measure, so you’ll need to come suitably equipped and don’t forget to pack a sense of humour!

Grampian Mountains - Callander to Crianlarich
Route. Mainly based on the Rob Roy Way with a few munros to cross. 50km in total.

Train and bus as main transportation, then hike for almost 4 days- day and night most likely. Wild camping.

Take advantage of the post Christmas bank holidays with a week's winter climbing and walking in the Northern Cairngorms.

We’ll be staying at the Aviemore Youth Hostel which is warm, clean and spacious and arguably has the best drying room in the UK!

Winter Climbing
The Cairngorms, and in particular the Northern Corries, are the most popular early season winter climbing venue in Scotland and are often in condition this time of year.

The venue is ideal for novices and seasoned climbers alike with many classic routes across all grades.

Winter Walking
The Cairngorms boast many excellent winter walks and are home to 55 Munroes and numerous bothies.

Accommodation and booking
We’ll be staying at the Aviemore Youth Hostel https://www.hostellingscotland.org.uk/hostels/aviemore/
As well as booking onto the meet we ask participants to book themselves a bed in a dorm room at the hostel. They can do this either online at the website above, or by calling 01479 810345.
We’ve agreed with the hostel that they’ll try and put LMC members in the same rooms so please mention that you’re with the LMC if you book by phone. If you book online, follow this up with an email to aviemore@hostellingscotland.org.uk mentioning that you’re with the LMC.
Please book early to avoid disappointment as the hostel does book up in the winter, especially on weekends. Booking via a 3rd party website is not recommended as this will make it more difficult for the hostel to keep the group together.
At the time of writing a bed in a dorm room at the hostel was £26.50 per night.

Cancellation
The cancelation terms for people booking individually, directly with the hostel, are very generous and are the main reason we’re asking people to self-book their accommodation. Participants can cancel independently up until 12 noon on the day before they’re due to arrive and receive a 90% refund. This could be for any reason including if participants feel the weather or snow conditions are likely to make winter climbing/walking impossible.

Travel
Aviemore is roughly a 10 hour drive from London, but having a car on the meet is not strictly necessary as much of the winter climbing and walking can be accessed by public transport, short taxi rides, and even hitch hiking!
There are direct day trains from London and some sleeper train services over the period.

Prerequisites
The Cairngorms are a great venue for winter climbers and walkers of all levels, including novices. But we recommend that anyone that’s completely new to either of these activities do a course beforehand to familiarise themselves with the winter specific skills they need. A weekend course in the Cairngorms or Western Highlands should be sufficient.

For winter climbing, summer trad climbing is also a very helpful (arguably essential) grounding as it teaches many of the core skills required, including: rope management, placing gear, building belays, route finding, and coping with being scared!

This long weekend is an exciting opportunity to support and encourage our female members as they make the transition from summer trekking to winter mountaineering. While women have historically been under-represented on our winter meets, this course aims to bridge that gap. By creating a dedicated, supportive environment, we will provide more female members with the skills and confidence to get out and adventure in the winter mountains.

DETAILS
The meet will run from the evening of Friday, 22 January, to the evening of Tuesday, January 26th, with the Winter Skills course running on the Saturday and Sunday (23-24 Jan).
The meet will comprise of 6 spaces for students to participate in a 2-day introduction to Winter Walking Skills.
There will be an additional 4 spaces for intermediate to advanced women mountaineers who would like to join the meet to walk and/or climb separate to the course, while encouraging the beginner mountaineers.
All attendees will benefit from collaborative support and encouragement, as well as an evening talk about avalanche awareness and the chance to share a communal evening meal.

IS IT FOR ME?
The 2-day winter skills course on this meet is for summer hill walkers or beginners looking to build their confidence in winter under the guidance of a qualified Winter Mountain Leader.
After the course concludes, there will be optional time to venture into the hills with other meet participants, without instruction, to practice what you learned.
The 4 spaces for intermediate to advanced female mountaineers are for any women whose winter skills are already “in development” or “experienced.” You will need to be self-sufficient and capable of venturing out without an instructor. During the last 2 days,you are welcome to mix in with those stretching their winter wings, to help support their learning and development.

COURSE CONTENT
During the course, the following subjects covered will include (but are not limited to):
- Selection and packing of winter equipment and clothes
- Planning and preparing for a Winter day, including analyzing weather and avalanche forecasts
- Movement on snow and ice, using both the boot as a tool and crampons
- Use of an ice axe
- An introduction into winter navigation

LOGISTICS
This meet will take place in the Cairngorms, Scotland. Accommodation is at the Aviemore Youth Hostel. Ideally, participants in the Winter Skills course will arrive by 6pm on Friday evening, leaving Tuesday afternoon (or earlier if desired).
We have two rooms booked for our exclusive use. One room is for the 6 course participants. And one room is for the 4 independents.

Aviemore is well-served with a train station, receiving trains direct from London.
Inverness airport is less than an hour away with good options for car hire.
Or, you can drive from London.
The meet steward will help you coordinate transportation, if needed.

A kit list will be supplied when you sign up, along with more help and details.

The cost for four nights will be £104 per person (based on full occupancy of 10 people).

The Winter Mountain Leader is a freelance woman very keen to support this initiative, and is therefore providing us with a discounted (Summer) rate of £500 total for the two days of instruction, which include her expenses.
Based on this, course fees will be £83.88 per person (based on full occupancy of 6 people).

This brings total cost (accommodation + course if applicable) to:
£190 per person for course participants
£105.20 per person for independent (non-course) participants
(including DD/Paypal transaction fees.)

PRE-MEET
We will meet in London prior to the trip for a pre-meet social and chance to address any questions and concerns, look at kit, and generally get psyched for the trip!

Ice climbing and skiing on the the Ecrins massif in the French Alps.

We'll be staying in the town of Le Bourg-d'Oisans in the northern Ecrins which is well situated for a range of winter sports.

Activities

For ice climbing there's the beginner friendly area at Alpe d'Huez with short approaches . There's also the world famous La Grave and the lost valley of Vallon du Diable with many excellent multiptich routes. Both Alpe d'Huez and Vallon du Diable are situated above 2000m and have relatively reliable ice.

For those looking for something more esoteric, there's the adventurous mixed climbing of Tetes de Sainte Marguerite.

There's lots of skiing options too with the resorts of Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes nearby, and the freeride mecca of La Grave less than an hour away.

And of course in the high mountains of the massif there's a wealth of ski touring, ski mountaineering and winter alpine climbing opportunities.

Accommodation

We've booked 2 large houses in the Centre of Bourg d'Oisans

Full payment for the accommodation is required on sign up (£276.39). I'm afraid we can't offer refunds if you have to cancel. If you need to pull out of the meet after booking you can try and find someone else to take your place and pay you the accommodation fees directly.

Travel

The best way to get there is to fly to Lyon and hire a car. The drive from Lyon airport to Le Bourg-d'Oisans is around 1hr 30 mins. Car hire sharing will be organised nearer the time. At the time of writing both flights and car hire were reasonably priced.

This meet is suitable for both experienced ice climbers and those with at least some prior technical winter climbing experience. Ideally, participants will have completed an introductory winter or ice climbing course with a qualified guide.

5 Nights at the CIC hut situated at the foot of the North Face of Ben Nevis. The UK's premier winter climbing crag and home to a huge range of routes including many classics!

The hut is booked from the Sunday to the Friday morning so it's recommended to travel up on the Saturday (15th Feb) and then use Sunday to walk up to the hut with food and gear for the week and ideally do a climb that day as well

The CIC hut is basic. It has a kitchen, toilets, running water and drying room, but no shower. For details on facilities, and the hut more generally, see https://www.smc.org.uk/huts/cic.

All gear and food needs to be taken up on foot from the Ben Nevis North Face Car Park which takes around 2hrs 30 mins and is a real slog. But once you're there, there are relatively short walk-ins to all the climbs on the North Face.

Late Feb is slightly earlier that previous years, however the hut is in high demand and already booked out. This time of year is typically a good time for ice routes on Ben Nevis so you're likely to get more out of this meet if you're happy on this surface and can climb at least Scottish grade III. This meet is not recommended for those that favour winter walking as options for that activity are very limited.

The cost of a bed in the hut is £28 p.p.p.n. The full cost of £140 is payable on sign up. Unfortunately due to high demand for the CIC hut in the winter season the Scottish Mountaineering Club cannot offer refunds in the event of cancellation. If you need to cancel your place then please let the meet steward know asap. They can help find someone else to take your place (who will transfer you the money), though replacements aren't guaranteed and you will be liable for the costs if replacements can't be found.

Although these were the only dates available to book the Hut in this period, there may well be accommodation elsewhere on Skye before and after, and attendees are encouraged to stay up longer than the actual meet dates to make the journey worthwhile.
