The Gritstone Gallop
20 Jun 2008 to 21 Jun 2008

A joint meet with the Worcester MC.

A new meet and challenge for the LMC this year, as an alternative to the Champagne Challenge, but following in a great tradition of the Rock and Ice club - who apparently used this event for their pre-Alpine training, in days of yore.

The 'Gallop' is about 12-14 miles in length, and is done entirely on foot (and hands!). It starts in the High Neb area of Stanage in the Peak District and ends at Birchens Edge, a route is climbed on every edge/crag on the way - usually about 12!. The route, crags, routes you climb and the grade at which you climb, are entirely up to you (you can even walk it if you like), but usually includes all the Classic Gritstone Edges in the East Peak . However be warned - Your grade for the 'Gallop' is the lowest grade you climb in the day, and the more crags you climb, the more beers you are allowed in the Robin Hood Inn - Which as many will know is situated conveniently close to Birchens Edge and can be used for much needed refreshment/celebration .... if you make it before closing time!

Check the bulletin board (Meets Section) for suggested route/edges and further details
