Sicily is located in the central Mediterranean and is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which, at 3,350 m (10,990 ft.), is the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world.
The plan is travel out on Thursday (22/03) and stay at one of the well-appointed campsites about an hour and half drive from Palermo (the capital city). The campsite has under cover sitting and cooking area so there is no need to pack a stove! It also has a market, pool and bar/restaurant.
The climbing is literally out the back of the campsite and is mostly on limestone with bolted routes of about 1 pitch length.
There is certainly scope for lots of climbing, walking-lots of wild flowers and a few hills to negotiate. As well as plenty of archaeological sites of interest!
