Assynt and Fisherfield ***CANCELLED***
7 May 2020 to 10 May 2020

Mark VE Day in style in one of the most beautiful parts of the world!

The Northwest Highlands are home to some of the most stunning scenery not just in Scotland, but in the whole wide World. This is some of the oldest exposed land on the planet and the primeval feel of the monstrous hills here will have you planning return visits the second you leave them.

Staying at the Ullapool Youth Hostel from Thursday night to Sunday morning, this meet is designed for those who want to explore the leviathan peaks of Assynt in the North and the remote and dramatic peaks of Fisherfield to the west. Hillwalking, trail running and scrambling of the finest vintage are all in high supply here. There are currently 12 spaces booked, I will expand meet size if there is enough demand.

Assynt is home to inselberg peaks that rise uninterrupted from a lochan-studded valley floor, quite unlike anything else in Britain. Suilven is the obvious main attraction, a mountain that has to be seen to be believed. The nearby hills of Canisp and Quinag are almost as spectacular, sublime objectives in their own right. Mini but mighty, Stac Pollaidh is the scrambler’s hill, a veritable playground of rock that is easily accessed from the road.

Fisherfield is the epitome of Highland grandeur. Featuring some of the most remote and majestic Munros in A’ Mhaighdean (best summit view of any Munro according to Dale) and Ruadh Stac Mor, it is a place of staggering wilderness and scale. Top billing goes to the castellated An Teallach, often cited as Scotland’s greatest mountain and a must for any self respecting British mountaineer. The challenge of the traverse of the Corrag Bhuidhe pinnacles, a grade three scramble, is not one to miss.

There are flights to Inverness from London and from there it is an hour and a half’s drive to Ullapool. The plan will be to arrange to meet in Inverness and hire cars.
