Social evenings are held on the third Wednesday of each month except in December, where the Xmas calendar will dictate the socials. We meet in the upstairs room of a pub called The Devereux at 20 Devereux Court, Temple, London WC2R 3JJ (map).
Socialising starts in the pub from 7pm and the main event kicks off at about 8pm in the upstairs room.
Sometimes we have a purely social evening or a quiz night, but socials are talks and slide or movie presentations by outside speakers or talented club members on climbing and mountaineering related topics.
Tony Hamza tells the story of early expeditions to the world's second highest mountain K2.
He will then show a video of an expedition trekking towards K2 in the summer of 2019.
Travelling in the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan proved to be a very bumpy ride.
Usual drinks from 7pm and the talk upstairs at 8pm
Nick returns after his Alpine meet run down at the multimedia night to discuss the principles of Heuristic Traps in climbing.

*****Join us for our AGM on Thursday 19th March 2020*****
The AGM is an important process in determining the future direction of the club so it's important to have as many club members there as we can to ensure everyones voices are heard. From ensuring you get the right candidates for the appropriate committee positions to ensuring everyone can provide feedback and vote, a well run AGM will ensure that preparations for the rest of the year are on track.
Please make every effort to attend the AGM this year. 7pm start.
***Free drink for the first 20 people to arrive***

W. K. MARPLES and R. O. G. THOMSON wrote an article in The Himalayan Journal published in 1940 describing a number of climbs setup around Quetta by 'Quetta Slabbers'.
Among their many finds was a classic 1,500ft high multi-pitch route up The Grand Arête of Takatu , a twin peaked mountain with an altitude of 3,400m located to the North East of the city.
Zaheer visited Quetta in the Spring of 2019 with the aim to recreate the climb with local climbers. Was it a success? Join the live stream and find out yourself.
Pour yourself a glass, login and enjoy the talk at 7.30pm

The LMC committee have decided to hold the 2020 AGM in place of the March AGM date, which was cancelled due to lockdown restrictions.
This is the first time we will all gather online with so many people. Like any good day out on the hill, we appreciate your support to move at pace and stay focussed.
Questions to the committee:
In these uncertain times, the committee will be answering your questions. For ease on the night, please send questions in advance to secretary@londonmountaineeringclub.com
Committee reports:
All reports are available online ahead of the AGM and a short summary will be provided by each committee member on the night.
Election of the 2020 committee:
Hopefully you are aware that an emergency committee meeting held in March 2020 resulted in the use of Article 5(b) of the constitution, which allows the committee to fill vacancies or to co-opt members to the committee. The current committee can be found at https://www.londonmountaineeringclub.com/about-us/meet-the-committee, and the co-opted members are noted with an *
We will be voting on all committee member roles, and currently most committee members are standing for their roles again. However, nominations are open for all roles, for any club member to be nominated to.
Venue:
The AGM will be held using Zoom.
Joining Instructions
We look forward to seeing you all there. The Zoom room will be kept open afterwards for a catch up with light refreshments

'Rebellious women, Project Alpine Spirit and a year of 4,000m Alpine adventures! Join us for Becky Coles Alpine Stories Project Alpine Spirit. In this talk, she will share the stories of her all-women's team on their quest to summit all the 4,000m peaks in the Alps. In addition, Becky will entertain us with tales of the pioneering women who shunned social norms of their day to fulfil their passion for the big mountain adventures of Alpinism.
Becky Coles is a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and International Mountain Leader. She is an experienced Expedition Leader, with trips to all 7 continents and over 70 countries. As a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, she has made first ascents of mountains in Nepal and South Georgia, Antarctica. In 2019, she took a summer off from being a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and headed to the Alps with an all-women's team to climb the alpine 4000m peaks as part of Project Alpine Spirit.'
By the time we get back to the hills properly the clouds might be thick and the night's long. Prepare for that bleak mountain clag by joining us for some navigation practice from the comfort of your own living room. A short "know your map symbols quiz" will be followed by a look at contours, route planning, hazard identification, and may be even using a compass.
Turn up from 7:30pm to share stories of that time you got lost coming off the Glyders or that time you had to use your compass to eat porridge because you forgot your spork.
We'll start from 8pm and we'll try to get done by 9pm. Have your compass at the ready.
