Participating in meets is what the club is all about. Meets are run by members, for members.
The club thrives by having members take an active interest in the meets that are run. To volunteer to steward a meet, or to suggest a new meet, please contact our meets secretary. The FAQ page offers advice on what to expect on a meet and guidelines for organising meets. Remember that if you have spotted potential for a new meet, the chances are high that others will also be interested!

Annual Haggis night/weekend celebrating the life of the National Bard of Ayrshire, Rabbie Burns.
Location TBC (and obviously dependent on Covid-19 guidance and legislation).
More**CANCELLED DUE TO COVID**
For 2021's now annual LMC Ice Climbing Meet we're heading to Rjukan in Norway.
Rjukan is reckoned (by the Norwegian Alpine Club) as the best location in Northern Europe for ice climbing. Given that it is without sun six months of the year, conditions are optimal for ice climbing, so they're probably telling the truth.
We've booked a house with 12 spaces in nearby Tinn, complete with: kitchen, dining room, 2.5 bathrooms, stunning mountain views and even a sauna!
To book your place you need to have paid a £100 deposit by 31st October, 2020.
Accommodation will cost £20 - £25 p.p.p.n depending on how many sign up.
Best way to get there is to fly to Oslo and hire cars. Then it's a 3 hour drive to Rjukan.
Recommended flights:
Given the current uncertainty around Covid we recommend getting flexible tickets or holding off on buying them until the picture becomes more certain.
Sat 27th Feb: LGW - OSL 09:20 (Norwegian Air)
Sunday 7th Feb: OSL - LGW 18:40 (Norwegian Air)
In the event that travel restrictions, or issues related to Covid-19, prevent travel to and from Norway or would make the trip unsafe, we will cancel and refund any deposits paid. This can be done up until the day before the start of the trip.
Please note: By attending this meet you are confirming that you have read and understood the club's Covid-19 Advice to Meet Participants (found under Info in the website main menu or shown in red on the Meets calendar page).

A ten mile day hike around Surrey's Box Hill.
We will be leaving at 08:10 from London Victoria to arrive at Box Hill & Westhumble station at around 09:07 (the train will also call at Clapham Junction at around 08:17).
Train tickets will be about £10 for a return (or £6 with a railcard).
The walk will take you through Norbury Park, Mickleham Downs, Headley Heath and Box Hill. As a final stop, we will also be visiting the stepping stones.
We will be crossing some moderately challenging terrain, and yes, there is a big hill at the end.
Ignore the end date in the meets description. This is a day hike.
This is a circular hike. we will finish at Box Hill & Westhumble station.
UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE
Unfortunately there are some railway works on Sunday. We therefore need to take the train from Waterloo (not Victoria) at 08:02 to arrive at Westhumble at 08:51. The train will call at Vauxhal at 08:06 and Clapham Junction at 08:11.
If you are coming by car, please make sure you get to Westhumble at around 08:50. Once we have collected everyone, we'd be planning to set off around 09:00.
I will circulate an update on Friday.
MoreBank holiday climbing on the finest limestone in the country. For those new to Pembroke, there is a good introduction to the area on UKC — https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/destinations/beginners_pembroke-10261.
Camping will (hopefully — awaiting confirmation) be at the St Petrox campsite (http://www.stpetroxcampingandcaravansite.co.uk).

UPDATE: Sorry, but I couldn't get a booking at the St Govan's pub for the Saturday night but there are 14 tables outside (that can't be booked), so a bit of patience may see us served.
MoreClimbing on superb Limestone in the beautiful Wye Valley in south east Wales. Lots of single pitch venues and multi-pitch at the spectacular Wintour's Leap.
We intend to stay at Beeches Farm campsite near Chepstow with open views of the valley and one of the very few campsites allowing bonfires. Well located for access to sports/ trad climbing crags and walking routes in the ancient Forest of Dean.
MoreAn ideal way to get fit for the Alps.
But what is this Gallop? The idea is to climb one route at each of the eastern edges walking between them carrying all gear and food etc.
Teams generally leave a car at the starting point and collect afterwards.
Galloping is not obligatory and there are plenty of other climbing or walking options

MoreA trip to the glorious Scottish isle, home to the Cuillin Ridge.
World class trad, scrambling, mountaineering, hiking, bouldering....everything except sport climbing basically.
Staying at the Portree Independent Hostel that has a range of rooms of various sizes and a very flexible cancellation policy should Covid rules mean the trip can't go ahead.
They hope to have their shared kitchen open for guests, but at a minimum will have microwave/kettle/sandwich making facilities available should communal cooking not be allowed.
It is suggested that groups/partnerships that plan to come make their own bookings directly at the hostel given the current situation, but I'm happy to help facilitate that if needed, feel free to get in touch (ecvme@yahoo.com)
Some of us have already booked to stay in static caravan nearby.
There are campsites on the island but given the typically high levels of rainfall, and the midges, camping is not recommended.
Travel - It's possible to fly or take a train to Glasgow or Inverness and then hire a car but this is likely to be a lot more expensive and less flexible and refundable than driving up. Having a car up there to get to around the island is highly recommended.
MoreBOOKINGS NOW CLOSED. NO FURTHER SIGN UPS SORRY.
A weekend of training from qualified mountain leaders and climbing instructors.
If you're new to scrambling or traditional climbing or want to improve your trad leading then this is the meet for you!
Training will take place over the Saturday and Sunday and participants can choose one of 3 options:
1. Mountain walking and scrambling (inc. navigation)
2. Intro to traditional climbing
3. Improvers traditional climbing (for those that are already comfortable leading V Diff - Severe)
Cost
Exact costs have yet to be determined and will depend on the numbers who sign up and which instructors are available, but ranges are given below. The figures do not include camp site fees.
Intro/Improvers Trad climbing: £150 to £200 per person for the 2 days based on a participant instructor ratio of 2:1. Includes all gear except harness and shoes.
Mountain Walking/Scrambling: around £60 - £100 for the two days. Assuming a participant instructor ratio of 4:1
How to book:
A deposit of £30 is payable when signing up to the meet. Please indicate in the comments section which training option you're interested in and we'll use this to determine how many instructors we need for each activity.
In order to have enough time to book instructors we request that participants book and pay their deposit by 6th June. We can't guarantee that we can offer places to those that sign up after this date.
If you sign up and pay the deposit then there's an expectation that you attend the course and pay the fees in full since individual cancellations may not be possible with the instructors.

More
A trip to the hut for weekend mountain activities.
• Climbing
The Llanberis pass is one of the most rock-climbing valleys with amazing crags and rock climbs of every grade and style.
• Scramble/hiking
Crib Goch-it’s an exposed grade 1 scramble. It’s by far tougher than all the other main routes up Snowdon. The NE ridge up Crib Goch is the toughest approach, with the usual PYG track approach being next. The next hardest routes would be Y Gribin and then Y Lliwedd
The Watkin Path- it’s easier than Crib Goch. However, the final section of this path is considered to be 2nd toughest. It’s also physically demanding – with more ascent than any other direct ascent.
The South Ridge Route- It’s the hardest as it is longer and does involve a quieter path with some sections of scrambling and exposure on Bwlch Main. This scrambling isn’t as hard as the inconvenience.
• Walks
If you don’t want to climb or scramble, or just want something to unwind after climbing, then walk to Llanberis’ Waterfall – Ceunant Mawris is ideal. It's well-hidden down a country lane near the Llanberis Path. Also a quick stroll along the lakeside you will see the sculpture of a 6-metre-high sword- Llafn y Cewri (Blade of the Giants) which is located next to Llyn Padarn.

We should be back at Box Hill & Westhumble station at around 15:30, in time for the train back to Waterloo.
If people want, there is an option for a pub at the end of the hike.
Please ignore the end date of this meet. This meet will take place on 23 October.
